Imo Assembly begins impeachment process against Okorocha’s deputy, Madumere

The Imo State House of Assembly has begun proceedings to impeach the state’s deputy governor, Eze Madumere.

Madumere is being accused by the lawmakers of gross misconduct.

In a petition submitted by the deputy speaker, Nnanna Ozuruigbo and signed by 13 out of the 27 members of the Assembly, the deputy governor was accused of abandoning his office for more than three months without permission.

Madumere was also accused of refusing to carry out official duties assigned to him by Governor Rochas Okorocha.

It would be recalled that Madumere had been having a running battle with Okorocha, over his governorship ambition, which saw him aligning with other politicians against the governor during the congress of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state.

Following the submission of the petition, the House has set up a 6-man probe committee to the effect.
