Plateau assembly removes speaker, majority leader

The Plateau state house of assembly has removed Peter Azi, the speaker, and replaced him with Joshua Madaki, lawmaker representing Jos east constituency.

The impeachment followed a motion on a vote of no confidence moved by the lawmaker representing Barkin Ladi constituency, Peter Gyendeng.

17 of the 24 lawmakers unanimously passed the motion of impeachment through a voice vote, leading to the removal of the former speaker.

Henry Yunkwap, majority leader of the assembly, was also impeached on the same grounds and replaced by Nanlong Daniel.

They were also accused of not following due process in the recent removal of local government caretaker committee chairmen.
